Dog Wrangler writes, this is a picture of my husband Dale and our youngest female, Phoenix. Last year in early spring Phoenix damaged some carpal tendons while out running in some pretty rough terrain. She spent the better part of summer, all of grouse season, and half of pheasant season in a carpal brace. This picture was taken her first day of hunting after receiving the all clear to start running again. As you can see she had a good day, and is totally focused on “Dad” trying to convey her deepest gratitude for finally taking her out hunting. It is one of my favorite pictures of the two of them because it actually shows the real bond these two have with each other.

Dusty 12 ga writes-this was taken near Rockyford in southern Alberta, this picture is special to me as it showcases three generations of our shorthairs and is a tribute to our foundation girl, Tjra (right), who passed away last year at the age of 14 1/2. This picture also holds fond memories of the many opening days spent hunting this area with good friends and fellow dogs, as it has now become posted land. It is very ironic that the year our Tjra and her sidekick brother Jaeger passed away, the land they loved to hunt on was no longer accessable to hunters. The ashes of Tucker (Tjra and Jaeger’s sire) as well as the ashes of Jaeger now watch over this special hunting haven.

February 2009

MICH submitted this photo in which “Buck the Wirehair Pointer hands over a pheasant to hunting buddies Tim and Dustin. My 11 year old son has been enjoying the sport of Upland Bird Hunting with friend Tim for several seasons. The day after Christmas we enjoyed a successful hunt before target practice with the new 22 rifle Dustin got from Tim for Christmas. I enjoy following them around with a camera in pursuit of that perfect photo shot.”

January 2009

BirdBro sent this photo which he describes as a California Quail (the state bird) and California Poppies, (the state flower) unexpectedly came together in the protected habitat behind my home. The local communities’ support of wildlife habitat conservation practices made this photo possible.

December 2008

Lingo302 sent this photo which he describes as “a photo of a limit of pheasants in south central Kansas with my two German shorthairs, Gizmo and Ruby, after hunting a CRP field in chest high grass. In the same field I found this old John Deere. It’s a special picture because I have few photos of my dogs and me together and I also collect the John Deere series of Case knives. Sometimes you have hunts where everything went perfectly – this was one of them.” Lingo302 wins a Pheasants Forever or Quail Forever hat and will be entered in the grand prize drawing.

A winner will be chosen each month for 11 months where at that time the 11 monthly winners will be entered into the 12th month of the contest for the Grand Prize.
